Can Reese Sidewinder Pivoting Pin Box Be Serviced by One Person
Question:
I have the Reese 16K Sidewinder. I know that it needs to be serviced occasionally by applying lithium grease to the inner tube of the turret and also the wear plate. How can I do this by my self? How heavy is the arm with the pin on it if removed from the turret by removing the four 5/8inch bolt? Could I hold up the arm and remove the bolts?

Installing or servicing a Sidewinder pivoting 5th wheel pin box like the 16K-rated # RP34FR is definitely a 2-person job. The entire pin box weighs about 135-lbs, including the turret. The turret alone can weigh from about 40-lbs to 50-lbs so you definitely need extra hands for the removal/partial disassembly required for the periodic lubrication and maintenance.
It is often easiest to place a sturdy table or work bench under the pin box to hold it after removal.
You can use grease like LubriMatic White Lithium Grease # L11354. Please refer to the linked assembly instructions for the Sidewinder, page 11, for maintenance guidelines.
