Gearbox Recommendation for Kwikee Step on 2006 Winnebago View

Question:

I have a 2006 Winnebago View with a 2-step Kwikee unit part # 903209100. I have replaced motors over the years, now the step is shuddering upon closing. I disassembled the gearbox and found the large gear which appears to be aluminum, has stripped teeth. The small gear shows no wear, but the pin which supports the small gear on the case end seems loose. Is this normal wear? I am assuming the gearbox needs replacing. It has an Ainch arm configuration. Also How is the motor controlled upon closing? is there a resistance switch built into the controller which senses the increased electrical load that turns the motor off? If the control unit fails to turn the motor off can this cause this problem? It still has the original control unit and works normally in all other operations. I notice that there are shims, and a discussion about whether there is a need for 2 or 4. What are these shims, where do they go, and are there specific alignment and adjustment procedures needed to install the gearbox correctly? Thanks If you could call me it would help .. Thanks, Tom Platt 801-558-4777

You are correct and the linkage does need to be replaced. For that you would want the part # LC379160 which matches what you have.

My contact at Lippert technical confirmed that two washers, not four, are supplied with the Kwikee Step Gear/Linkage with A, part # LC379160. Typically only two of the four mounting holes for this part will require the shim washers.

The shims will go between the gear box and the step. You'll see them as you take off the old gear box.
