Recommended Roof Cargo Box for 2012 Durango Citadel with 52 Inch Front Clearance

Question:

I am interested in this box TH6299B, as well as the yakima skybox 21. My factory bars are far enough apart, but it is only 52inch from the front bar to the hinge for the rear hatch. I need as much space as possible for cross country travel with my family of 6. Will either of these boxes fit, and it so, then what would be your expert preference? I lean toward yakima for price and made in USA, but styling and reviews of Thule boxes are appealing. Will this fit a 2012 Durango citadel?

My recommendation for your clearance is the Thule Motion XT Rooftop Cargo Box - 18 cu ft - Black Glossy # TH629806. This will give you the styling you prefer and give you complete access to the rear hatch of your 2012 Dodge Durango Citadel. The box is 84-1/2" long x 36" wide x 17" tall. This is my recommendation over the Yakima alternatives.

The Thule Motion XT Rooftop Cargo Box - 22 cu ft - Black Glossy # TH629906 requires a front clearance of 55 inches and the Yakima SkyBox 21 # Y07337 must have 57 inches from the center of the front crossbar to your the line where your roof and hatch meet. Both of these boxes will have contact with your rear hatch and will greatly impact cargo access.
