Installing a Brake Controller in a 2009 Honda Odyssey

Question:

Find the plug under the dash where adapter plug for brake controller goes. Some pilot ones show at the base of the ebrake. Cant find it there. Help wire the 7 pin connector from either the lights controller, or separate wiring like hour 2011 video. You have no odyssey videos with factory tow for mine that i can tell. There seems to be two power type lines capped off at the lights controller. Is this where the brakes come from? Brake controller installation on 2009 honda odyssey with factory tow package

Installing a brake controller on your 2009 Honda Odyssey will be different than a brake controller being installed on a 2011 Honda Pilot. As you have discovered there are no connectors under the dash for you to plug in an adapter for a brake controller. Your brake controller will need to be spliced into the appropriate functions on your Odyssey.

If all of the wiring has been run for a 7-Way at the rear of your Odyssey then that makes your install much easier. For a brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 you will want to connect the following wires from the included pigtail to the following functions:

Blue - Brake Controller pin on 7-Way
Black - 12V Power
White - Ground
Red - COLD Side of Stop Light Switch (only gets hot when brake pedal is pressed)

You can try testing the 2 wires that you found with a Circuit Tester # PTW2993 to see if they have the appropriate functions for your brake controller.

If you don't have any trailer wiring installed on your Odyssey then you will want to install the Tekonsha T-One # 118438 along with the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. This will give you a fully functioning 7-Way that will allow you to utilize your brake controller. I have attached an install video of this process for you to check out.

If you already have a 7-Way installed on your Odyssey that activates the trailer lights and you are simply needing to add the wiring for your brake controller then you will simply need the Wiring Kit # 5506 to do so. An installation video has been linked for this product as well.

You can also use the attached picture to help with the installation of any wiring that may be needed.
