Trunk Mounted Bike Rack for a 2014 Toyota Prius With Glass Hatchback

Would the thule gateway pro trunk mount bike rack be a good option for my 2014 toyota prius. My primary concern is pressure on the glass hatchback. Any other trunk mounts? Thanks

The Thule Gateway Pro, part # TH88VR is an otherwise good pick for your 2014 Toyota Prius, but you are correct that you'd have to attach the rack directly to the glass at the top of the hatch in order to mount this rack.

Instead, I recommend a Saris Bones 2 Bike Carrier, part # SA805BL for the glass hatch Prius because of Saris' Hatch Hugger straps, part # SA3035. These straps replace your top mounting straps with ones that thread through your hatchback's top gap and use a cushioned bar to remain in place, eliminating the need for mounting the anchor straps directly to the glass.

If you're planning on carrying any step through, women's or aggressive frame (BMX or Mountain) bikes, you'll want to add a Swagman Frame Adapter bar, part # 64005. This bar helps level out a trunk carried alternate frame bike and reduces the risk of impact when driving.
