Will the Roadmaster # 131-15 Base Plate Kit Fit a 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser
Question:
I purchased a Roadmaster Mounting Brackets XL base plate kit 131-15 to put on my 1989 Chevy K1500. Can I mo0ve these plates and put them on my 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser Ultimate Edition with Trail pkg.? I know it may be over kill with the allowable towing weight but that is ok. I am looking at purchasing the Blachawk All Terrain II tow bar that is rated at 10000lbs. Please advise!

Although the Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit # 131-15 will fit a handful of vehicles, it is not confirmed to fit your 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser.
The correct Base Plate Kit for your FJ Cruiser is the Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit # 1183-1 instead. This will work great with the Roadmaster BlackHawk 2 All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar # RM-422 that you mentioned.
Keep in mind that you will also need Safety Cables, Vehicle Tow Bar Wiring, a Supplemental Braking System, and most likely a High-Low Adapter.
The Roadmaster 80" Coiled Safety Cables # RM-653 are rated for 10,000 lbs and will work great with the BlackHawk 2 All Terrain.
For Vehicle Tow Bar Wiring I recommend using the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 as it will provide you with a simple and quick way to connect the wiring to activate the lights on your FJ Cruiser. If your FJ Cruiser has separate lighting then you will also need a wiring converter # 118158 and 2 additional diodes # RM-792 to retain separate turn and brake signals.
Since it sounds like you flat tow a few different vehicles it might be beneficial for you to invest in a portable Supplemental Braking System like the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR which can be used in multiple different vehicles. It is compatible with any vehicle that has an active power assist braking system. If you have to disconnect the battery for any of your vehicles to flat tow it then you will also want to install the 12 Volt Outlet Kit # RM-9332.
To ensure that your flat towing setup is safe you might need to purchase a High-Low Adapter. I have attached a helpful article that goes over how to determine if you need one as well as a link to our selection of high-low adapters for you to look through.
Be sure to follow any special instructions on flat towing that are in your owner's manual.
