Purpose of Separate Ground Lead on Tekonsha Wiring Adapter # 3040-P for 2005 Toyota Sequoia
Question:
I have seen different harnesses for this vehicle when installing a P2 into a 2005 Toyota Sequoia some with an extra ground wire and some without. My question is whether or not the ground pin on the factory harness is sufficient, or if the additional wire to a ground lug is necessary.

According to one of our contacts at Tekonsha, the Tekonsha Wiring Adapter, part # 3040-P, for the 2005 Toyota Sequoia, does utilize the ground connection in the factory plug under the dash, but Toyota used a very small gauge wire in the plug. In order to ensure a proper ground connection and reliable brake operation, a separate ground lead is used as well.
The brake controller harness on your 2005 Toyota Sequoia can be accessed by removing the kick plate near your emergency brake. The harness itself will be tucked up, and should be taped to another harness near the fuse block.
I am including a video link to a Prodigy brake controller being installed on a 2008 Toyota Sequoia. It will show where the factory brake controller port is located and where to attach the extra ground wire.
