Where to Install the Derale Transmission Cooler Kit # D13503 on a 2002 Toyota Tacoma

Question:

I have a tacoma 2002 4x4 3.4 auto trans and plan to tow 3500 travel Trailer. Would this be a good fit? And and any other fitting / parts needed for install? Would you add to cool before of after radiator inlet? Thanks

The Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit, part # D13503, would be a great fit for your 2002 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 3.4L towing a 3,500-lb travel trailer. You will want to measure to make sure you have enough room for the 11 inch wide x 8-3/4 inch tall x 7/8 inch deep heat exchanger to fit in front of the A/C condenser. This is the most efficient location for a transmission cooler.

Ideally you want the transmission fluid to be between 160 and 200 degrees for the best operation and longest life from the transmission.

The Derale cooler will come with a complete mounting kit and a radiator adapter that will fit the Toyota Tacoma with a 5/16 inch transmission line.

You will want to route the transmission fluid through the factory cooler first, and then through the Derale cooler # D13503, and finally back to your transmission. So the Derale cooler will be added after the factory transmission cooler in the radiator.

I am including a link to a FAQ page on transmission coolers.
