Since there could have been axle modifications to your 1987 Shelby Trailer there really is no way of telling what axle you have on your trailer from my end. What you can do though is check the weight capacity of your current axle and find out what the hub-face-to-hub-face (A) measurement is and the spring-center-to-spring-center (B) measurement is and get an axle that is comparable. You will also want to check to make sure that you get an axle that has the same spindle measurements (inner and outer bearings plus the inner diameter of the grease seal) so that you can get the exact same trailer tire size that you currently have for the new axle as well.
I have also attached some photos that you can use as a reference for this installation.
Something that you might want to look into for an easier installation is taking off your current axle and using 2 sets of our Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension. It is much easier to install and can improve the ground clearance on your trailer as well. We have the part # A35RS545 which is rated for 3,500 lbs and has an idler hub with the common 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern.
Keep in mind that adding an axle to your trailer will not necessarily increase the weight capacity of your trailer. Since you will be limited by your lowest rated component, if that is your trailer then you will not be able to load your AXLES to their combined max capacity as you will need to go with the trailer's weight capacity.
