How to Connect Brake Wiring to a 2000 Jayco Eagle That Has a 6-Way Connector Installed

Question:

Im installing electric brakes on my jayco popup camper. It would be nice to utilize the existing wiring on the trailer. Converting item #37995 to a 7 way plug for my truck on the female side is easy. However, the male side of this doesnt match up to the mount point on the trailer. The stock one has tabs to keep it in place. As the stock one only has 4 wires coming out of it, I cant reuse it. I can simply bypass the connector and use a connection box, but reusing this 6 way plug system seems to be the cleanest way. I just love it when companies have to make their own proprietary stuff. Do you have anything that can replace what is in the picture.

Since, you do not have the 7-Way RV trailer connection that the majority of trailers with brakes use, I recommend using Epicord 7-Way Molded Trailer Plug with Junction Box - 10' Long, 277-000141. This product will allow you to wire all of your trailer's lighting functions and the newly installed brake wiring into a junction box. The box has a 10 foot trailer connection with a 7-way plug.

The 7-way plug will allow you connect your trailer's lighting and brake wiring to your vehicle's 7-way connector. If you do not have a 7-way plug, then using the etrailer Universal Installation Kit for Brake Controller, # ETBC7, will allow you to install a 7-way connector to your vehicle.

If you are needing a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, # 90885. The P2 is a proportional unit that will activate the trailer brakes with the same intensity that your vehicle's brakes will be activated. The P2 has an easy installation and set-up which makes it one of our most popular controllers.
