Troubleshooting NC Error Code,Tekonsha Primus Trailer Brake Controller # TK90160, 2005 Ford F-150
Question:
I have a 05 F-150 that I put a Tekonsha Primus on it and keep getting the n.c code and cant figure out why? I checked and the n.c code means not connected but the wiring seems to be correct and have brake lights but no trailer brakes.

First, you will need to make sure you have the correct wiring harness for the brake controller. For your 2005 Ford F-150 and the Primus Brake Controller, # TK90160, you will need wiring harness # 20260. You will need to make sure that the harness is pinned out correctly.
Use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test the pins on the truck side wiring harness where the brake controller plugs into. The pin with the white wire is ground, the pin with the black wire is 12-volt power, the pin with the blue wire is brake output, and the pin with the red wire is for the brake switch (only shows a signal when the brake pedal is pressed).
If everything is pinned and connected properly and the trailer brakes are still not working, you will need to do some further troubleshooting. First, try the manual override lever to see if it engages the brakes. If it does, then you know the problem is on the red wire. Test it for a signal when you step on the brakes. If there is no signal, you will need to connect it directly to the brake light wire on the brake switch located above the brake pedal. You need the wire that shows a signal ONLY when the brake pedal is pressed.
If the manual override does not work, then there is something wrong with the internal circuitry of the brake controller and it will need to be replaced. You can also check the trailer and vehicle side connectors for corrosion. You can then move on to checking the trailer brakes themselves. If they are worn out or have bad wiring connections, they will not work correctly. If you can visibly see the windings on the brake magnets, then they will need to be replaced.
