Recommended RV Power Cord For Converting 50 Amp to 30 Amp for RV Power

Question:

Hi! My question is a about a 30 amp rv cord! I always plug into a 50 amp plug using a adaptor with my 30 amp cord. I do notice the handles always warm to the touch when use and now that Im in the market for a new power cord I want to avoid that. Do you carry a power cord in a thicker gauge. Maybe an 8 gauge that might avoid this? I dont understand why Im using a 30 amp cord with a 50 amp adaptor. Shouldnt the cord be able to hold the amp with different 30 amp connectors ends. Thanks!

An 8 gauge cable would help the handles from getting so hot, but unfortunately we don't carry anything like that. The 10 gauge wire is sufficient to work properly without overheating.

The Mighty Cord RV Power Cord Adapter - 50 Amp Twist Lock Female to 30 Amp Male - 25' # A10-3050EHD is most likely your best option for conversion. You may want to consider using a surge protector like # CAM55313 to protect your wiring when using a straight 50 amp male or the Camco RV Power Defender Voltage Protector - 30 Amp # CAM55301 if you are using the above adapter. Even minor surges may have something to do with the heat as well.
