Routing Recommendation for Transmission Cooler # D13503 When Installing on a 2009 Chevy Silverado
Question:
I have ordered cooler # D13503 and adpater # 13035 for my 2009 Silverado. It has a cooler from the factory on it. When I add this cooler, do I hook it up to the return line from the factory cooler or do I hook this cooler so that the fluid comes through it first? Will the package come with instructions?

Expert Reply:
Yes, you will want to route the factory cooler in the way that you described.
You would want to route the Derale cooler after the factory cooler. By that, I mean you would want to run the transmission coolant line from the transmission, to the factory cooler, then to the # D13503, and finally back to the transmission cooler.
Routing the coolers in that order is crucial, if you were to run the cooler before the factory cooler you would effectively be cooling the fluid and then reheating it as it would go through the factory cooler, which will be the same temperature as your engine coolant.
