Do I Really Need a Frame Adapter Bar for a Step-Through Bicycle?
Question:
I have a 2014 Forster and looking at the Swagman Trailhead 2 bike rack. My wifes bike is a step through. It looks like the rack should accommodate her bike without the extension bar, but do you recommend it anyway?

We typically recommend adding a Bike Frame Adapter like part # 64005 for most bikes with step-through frames because those bikes will ride at an angle without an adapter bar and this can cause whichever tire ends up near the ground to hit the ground if for some reason the clearance disappears. Adapter Bars are a cheap way to avoid costly damage to your bikes.
Additionally, I'd recommend adding a cable lock like the 10' Cable Lock, part # e98891 to improve security of your rig and deter theft of your bikes. Swagman also offers a combined Anti-Rattle Hitch and Cable Lock Kit, part # S64031 that combines the security of a cable lock with the anti-rattle security of a hitch lock to significantly improve both the stability of your ride and its security.
I've included a video of the bar in action so you can see how differently the bike rides with the adapter attached.
