How to Wire Multiple Batteries to Increase Current Capacity But Retain 12-Volt Operation  

Question:

Sir I have 600 watt solar panels and one 850va ups. My ups is Luminous 850va and it support only one 12 battery. For more backup I want add two batteries. If I will add two batteries in parallel then will it work. Because my UPS custmer care executive said that it support only one battery. Please suggest what to do. I dont want make 24 volt system. Please give solution is possible.

If you wire two 12-volt batteries in parallel you will remain with a 12V setup, but one that has higher current capacity. If you were to wire the two batteries in series, you would then have a 24V setup, with the output voltage doubled but the capacity remaining the same. Please refer to the linked diagram for illustration.

If you prefer to use a single 12V battery you can select one with a higher current capacity than the current one which will let it last longer. According to the information I was able to find online this UPS works with battery amperage ratings from 120-AmpHours up to 220-AmpHours. I suggest checking the documentation that came with the UPS.

You should definitely follow the guidance from the manufacturer of your uninterruptable power supply (UPS) since they bet know its capabilities.
