Is It Safe to Use Older Husky 5th Wheel Hitch
Question:
just picked up a used husky labeled as a 25k hd. it is an older model obviously and does not have the most recent safety features, ie the little red tab mentioned that is visible when jaws are opened and not visible when closed. also, there is no way to positively lock the jaws other than the little 3/16 dia pin that slides into a slot when handle is properly in position. my question is this. SHOULD I BE CONCERNED ABOUT USING THIS HITCH? IT APPEARS TO BE BRAND NEW AND FUNCTIONS PROPERLY.

As long as a 5th wheel hitch has been well taken care of and is in good working order there is no reason to doubt that it is safe to use. Unless you were to exceed the weight capacity I see no reason to be concerned. Husky is known for making quality 5th wheel hitches so unless something doesn't look right I'd say you are good to go!
If you would like to add a lock you can use the Master Lock Covered, Solid Body Padlock # 131D which has a 3/16 inch diameter shackle.
