Recommendation on a Weight Distribution System for a Pop Up Trailer and a 2006 Dodge Durango

When trying to decide on a proper weight distribution (WD) system for your towing rig, you will need to know the total tongue weight (TTW) of your set-up. The total tongue weight will be a fully loaded ready to tow trailer, plus any weight located behind the rear axle of your 2006 Dodge Durango. You want to use a system where your total tongue weight will fall in between the WD system's tongue weight range. I have attached an article that will explain how to find the TTW of your towing rig.

Once you have found your total tongue weight, you will be able to decided on the correct system for your towing application.

With the information that you provide I will be able to give you a general recommendation for a WD system. Since you are looking at a trailer that has a gross vehicle weight of 4,700 lbs, tongue weight is usually 10-15 percent of the total trailer weight. So, the tongue weight range of GVW will be 470 to 705 lbs. If you are going to be carrying cargo in the rear of your Durango, then that weight needs to be added to the tongue weight. As an example, lets say you have 100 lbs of cargo, then the tongue weight range ins now 570 to 805 lbs.
