Recommended Ball Mount With Receiver For Towing And Bike Rack Use Simultaneously

Question:

Can someone give me some advantages to using a dual receiver system rather than the Curt multi purpose ball mount #D210 when towing a pop up with a bike rack? I am thinking about gaineing extra distance from propane tanks for the bikes by using a 10inch ball mount with a dual receiver as opposed to the Curt mount. Thanks!

The benefit of using a dual hitch receiver like the Curt Dual 2" Receiver Tube Adapter, 8" Extension # D-192 is the ability to use a separate ball mount like what you stated. The major draw back to this adapter over an integrated ball mount like the # D210 is that you lose a lot by cutting the tongue weight of your trailer hitch by 50%, and if that rating is over 350 lbs tongue weight, you will be limited by the adapter itself to that maximum. If you have a large bike rack, that weight can almost make it difficult to tow even a small trailer with a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 lbs with this adapter along with the tongue weight restrictions.

For these reasons, I recommend going with the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount with 2" Receiver for Bike Racks and Cargo Carriers - 7,500 lbs # D210. It will not reduce your hitch receivers tongue weight rating and the ball mount is rated for 750 lbs tongue weight and 7,500 lbs towing.
