When the Prodigy P2 brake controller # 90885 displays two dots this indicates that the unit is getting 12V power from the battery and that it does not detect any trailer connected at the 7-way. This is totally normal. The tiny amount of power required to light up the display will not drain your battery so long as it is operated from time to time. It would take many months of this for the controller to have any effect on your battery.
The two studs near your power distribution box carry 12V power for the controller and for the auxiliary trailer power circuit on the 7-way. These should be hot all the time.
But if you wanted a way to have the ignition key control 12V power to the controller and/or to the 7-way you could install an isolation solenoid # PK5231201. This simple device acts like a switch to turn a 12V power feed on and off depending on whether or not there is a signal reaching the center post. You can use a fuse tap # F2526 to let you access one of the key-controlled functions, say a power antenna as an example, which could then be sent to the center post on the isolator to turn the 12V power on and off. The left post receives the 12V power from the battery and when the key is on the 12V will exit on the right post and go to the controller or 7-way.
