How to Pick Out Replacement Landing Gear for Trailer

Question:

I have hard a bit of trouble with the drivers side landing jack on my trailer. It would not raise or lower and made an awful clicking sound in the gears. I called a repair man out to the campground and he and his assistance took the thing apart and pronounced that the gears were stripped and that I would need a new leg. It is a hydraulic system. I managed to get the trailer hooked up to truck and returned home. Now I need to find another leg. 1 how do I measure the current leg to determine what size I need? 2 Do un-mechanical people actually change out these legs? 3 Is there a web site than can illustrate how-step by step this is done? 4 Is it possible to find a used leg and if so how would I go about that? Thanks

We don't have hydaulic landing gear leg replacements, but we might be able to set you up with a new set of landing gear that will replace what you have.

In order to pick out a direct replacement for the landing gear on your trailer we would need to know the distance between the mounting brackets. Otherwise you could just have the brackets removed from your trailer by a qualified welder and then install the brackets that come with the Reese/Bulldog Tandem Landing Gear Set # RP500708. Either way this landing gear set would work well for you, you just might have to have the brackets of your trailer removed and new ones welded in the correct location.

I attached a picture that shows the dimensions that this landing gear set would fit with.

The jacks would be the correct replacement for Lippert, Venture, and Atwood landing gear, as well as those from a few other manufacturers. The sure way to tell is that if the distance between the mounting brackets (underside of top bracket to top of lower bracket as shown in the diagram) is 17-1/2 inches. If this is the case, the landing gear should fit just fine.

If your frame clamps are instead 20-1/4 inches the Ultra Fab part # UF17-943010 would be a direct replacement.

The installs are pretty basic as long as the weld mounts match up like we talked about. If they don't you'd need to find someone to weld the legs on.
