Keep Blowing 20A Fuse on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question:

Ive got a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 7 Pin plug. Near the battery is an inline fuse holder with a 20A fuse. This fuse blew last week when pulling a boat trailer, so I replaced it. The fuse then blew again when pulling a utility trailer this week. Now, when trying to replace the fuse, right as I plug it in, it sparks and blows the fuse immediately. Im at a lost as where to begin.

The problem is that you have a short somewhere in your wiring setup.

Since the fuse has blown while using 2 different trailers this leads me to believe that the short is on your 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. You will want to start off by checking the 7-Way connector on your Jeep. Look for any debris or corrosion and clean it out. You will also want to inspect the wiring that runs to your 7-Way. Look for any places where the wiring is damaged, bent, exposed, or corroded and replace as necessary. Also check to make sure that your grounds are securely connected to clean, bare-metal surfaces.

If all the wiring looks good or you still experience this problem when you hook up one of your trailers then you will want to check the connector, wiring, and grounds on your trailer as well using the same procedure.

You can use some Dielectric Grease # 11755 to help prevent water damage and corrosion to your connectors in the future.
