Can Adding a Second Axle to a Trailer Increase It's Weight Capacity
Question:
i have a look cargo trailer limit with 3500lb axle. I can carry 1556 lb safely. i carry an rzr 4 seater 1255 lb. only allows 301 lbs extra. I was considering trading up for a dual axle trailer but would probably spend $2500 aprox. . Was looking at your website for alternative. is it possible to by 3500lb axle and hangers and springs to conv. my trailer to dual axle? would it be possible to upgrade single axle to 5k or 7k axle. i was also interested in your timbren axle less systems. would i need to strengthen my frame, change my hub and breaks to modify?

You'd want to first determine the overall capacity of the trailer to be sure that with more axle capacity you would end up with more total capacity. The capacity for a trailer is more than just the axle capacity. The frame of the trailer, coupler, safety chains etc all have individual weight ratings and you have to go with the lowest rated component as the overall weight capacity.
Your current axle will have to get removed because it will at least need to get moved forward or back so that you have the correct axle placement on your trailer.
Basically where your current axle is located is where the center spring hanger will be if you go to a tandem leaf spring axle.
