Replacement Trailer Brake Actuator Recommendation for 1,200 psi Actuator On Disc Brake Trailer

Question:

I have a King triple axle boat trailer, disc. brakes and a carlisle 1200psi actuator. It is 10 years old. Ser. #701570 I think they have the wrong actuator for disc. brakes. Since we purchased the boat we have had trouble with the brakes locking up. Do we need to change to the HBA 16?

Helpful Expert Reply:

A 1,200 psi actuator will be too low for a disc brake setup. You do need to go with the # HBA-16 which has the higher 1,600 psi rating needed for actuating disc brakes.

If you are experiencing unreliable brake performance then the issue is going to be related to the actuator not being rated properly for your brake style.
