Recommending a Weight Distribution System for a Jeep Wrangler

Question:

Hello, Looking for a weight distribution hitch to haul a Cherokee Wolf Pup 17RP camper. The camper weights 3,000 lbs dry weight. We will be pulling with a Jeep Wrangler. Could you assist in what hitch will work out best for us? We would like to come pickup this evening. Thank you,

The most important factor in choosing a weight distribution system is going to be your total tongue weight (TW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo located behind the rear axle of your Jeep Wrangler. You can determine this by using scale # e99044 or by one of the methods I've outlined in the help article on determining tongue weight I've linked for you.

For example, if you had a loaded trailer tongue weight of 350 lbs and 50 lbs of gear behind the rear axle of your Jeep, your TW would be 400 lbs and you would need a weight distribution system with a maximum capacity more than 400 lbs in order to get the best ride.

If your tongue weight was in the 400 lbs range, I recommend the Equal-i-zer # EQ37061ET which is for systems with a tongue weight between 200 lbs and 600 lbs. This system will prevent sway and not just reduce it with brackets that keep the spring bars in place. It will also allow you to back up while using it, and comes with a 2" hitch ball, though it is recommended you use a thin-walled socket # EQ70-00-4800 to make the hitch ball installation a bit easier.

I have added links to video reviews of these products for you as well as a help article on weight distribution you may find useful.
