Can Roadmaster Diode # RM-790 be Used to Prevent Backfeeding to Vehicle

Question:

The lights inside my horse trailer run off the 7 pin wiring when hooked to the truck. I need the ignition on for them to work. I would like to run the interior lights from a 12 volt battery mounted on the trailer when the truck is not running but still hooked to the truck. Would the Roadmaster RM-790 diode work for this to prevent back-feed to the tow vehicle? And what would be the correct way to wire this?

Helpful Expert Reply:

The diode part # RM-790 will prevent the circuit from backfeeding to the tow vehicle.

Basically you would pick one of the spades on the IN side of the diode for the side of the wiring from the trailer connector and then the OUT side would go to the battery.
