Does Pilot Diameter of Trailer Wheel Have to Be Same As Previous Trailer Wheel When Replacing Wheel

Question:

Your website states I can switch from a 4.80 x 8 to a 4.8 x 12. Because the center hole on the 12 tire 2 3\4 in stead of 2.5 will be different, will it still be capatable

Expert Reply:

The pilot diameter of a wheel really only has to be an exact match if the wheel attaches to the hub with wheel bolts and not lug nuts. Wheel bolts indicate the wheel is hub centric so that the pilot diameter would have to be an exact match. Lug nuts indicate the wheel centers on the lug nuts so as long as the pilot diameter is large enough to fit over the hub it's totally fine.

The part # AM30620 has a pilot diameter of 2.84 inches.
