where would be the best and easiest place to tap into the purple wire for a backup alarm on a 2015 Toyota Highlander?

You'd have to track the wiring that leads to the reverse lights of the 2015 Toyota Highlander and then test all of them with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 until you find the circuit that only carries voltage when the reverse lights are on. That would be the correct circuit to use.
