Troubleshooting Curt Venturer Trailer Brake Controller that Doesnt Recognize Trailer

Question:

When I step on the brakes all I get is the green light no bars. I have tried adjusting all the adjustments and using the hand control but I get nothing but a green light. I see nothing in the trouble shooting guide to help explain this. So any help would be appreciated. I am now towing a brand new 29foot gulf stream camper and it did work the day I took it home but not since.

The Curt Venturer Electric Brake Controller # C74VV shows just the green light when you press on the brake pedal and there is no trailer connected. So, it sounds like the controller is recognizing the trailer.

Start by inspecting both the truck and trailer's 7-way connectors and make sure they're clean and free of corrosion. If this isn't the issue, you'll want to use a tester on the truck's 7-way to see if any power is even getting to the trailer. Use a light tester like #PTW2993 while someone is in the truck's cab and engages the brakes.

If you don't show any power here, then the problem is on the truck. Cut the blue wire about 10 inches after the controller and use the tester here while engaging the manual override lever. If you still don't show power the controller is bad. If you get power here, there's a short or damaged wire somewhere between there and the 7-way.

If you are getting power at your truck's 7-way, then the problem is on the trailer. You'll need to inspect the wiring and magnets. I've linked an article on testing brake magnets that may be helpful to you.

If you still can't solve the issue let me know what you've found, we'll keep troubleshooting.
