Recommended 2-Bike Hitch Mounted Rack for 2014 Acura RDX

Question:

Need a 2-bike rack to sit on a receiver of a 2014 RDX: *What rack does not block the back up camera at least while the rack is empty? * On my previous RDX, I was issued a police warning for the 4-bike Thule rack because the police could not see brake lights/license while 2 adult road bikes were loaded on a Thule 4-bike rack. What rack will keep me out of trouble on the highway?

For your 2014 Acura RDX, I recommend looking at the Kuat Transfer 2 Bike Platform Rack # KU74FR. This is a great platform-style bike rack that will transport up to 2 bikes at 40 pounds each. I really like this particular rack for your application because it does not have the standard center mast that most bike racks feature. Because of this, when there are no bikes loaded onto the carrier, there will be no obstruction with your license plate and only limited interference with the backup camera. This rack can also tilt down, with the bikes still loaded, for easy rear cargo access on your RDX.

Any rear-mounted bike rack is going to block the license plate to some degree with the bikes loaded. When the bikes are loaded onto your rack, I recommend simply relocating your license plate to the spokes on your rearmost bike with some zip-ties. This will allow the license plate to be fully visible so you can avoid any further trouble on the highway.
