Troubleshooting Popping Noise from Brakes on 1998 Jayco Pop-Up Camper Trailer

Question:

We hooked the trailer up to our Yukon for a test drive before a trip. When the brakes are applied quickly a popping sound can be heard. Any suggestions

Expert Reply:

If your Jayco pop-up trailer's brakes are making a mechanical popping noise when applied suddenly I suggest you pull the wheels and hubs and inspect the brake assemblies. You could have something as simple as a broken spring or brake pad, or your brakes could have other more involved issues. Careful inspection is the best way to find out.

You want to pull both (or all hubs if the trailer has tandem axles) so you can compare, potentially, a damaged brake and a non-damaged one. It can be a lot easier to spot the problem if you have a properly-functioning brake to use as a guide.

Please feel free to tell me a bit more about your trailer along with the results of your initial inspection.
