Is 12V Wire On 2016 Ford F-150 Smaller Than Power Wire On Trailer Connector Wiring

Question:

the wire for 12v power on my 2016 f-150 is not as large as the blue brake wire all the wires are smaller than the four wire flat wires except the blue wire? is the orange wire still ok to use for power even though it is smaller gauge?

The functions for a 4-way trailer wiring is left turn, right turn, running lights, and ground. There is no 12V wire on a 4-way trailer connector.

If you are talking about a 7-way trailer connector here are the suggested wire gauges: Right turn, left turn, taillight, and back-up are 16 gauge. Ground, brake, and 12V power are 12 gauge.

I have attached a link to a wiring helpful article. In the article there is a wire chart for the vehicle manufacturers. On a Ford the orange wire with a blue stripe is normally used for the right turn and brake lights. The Light green wire with the orange stripe is used for the left turn and brakes. You will want to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test the wires for function since automobile manufacturers can change the wire colors at any time.
