Which Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System for 5000 GVWR Travel Trailer
Question:
Hello, I recently purchased my first travel trailer - a 2005 Starcraft Travel Star 21SSO with a UVW around 3,500 lbs and GVWR of 5,000 lbs. Using the standard formula for tongue weight of 10 to 15 of GVWR, that puts the tongue weight range of this trailer between 500 and 750 lbs. That means this trailer straddles the tongue weight ranges of the two Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution Systems Im looking at, Item # RP66083 and Item # RP66082. Given this information, which of these two Reese systems would you recommend? Thank you

You are on the right track for picking out the correct Strait Line weight distribution system. Since you are basing the numbers off of the max weight your trailer could be loaded you need to consider how likely you will be to max out the carrying capacity as well as noting that any weight behind the rear axle of your vehicle needs to be considered as tongue weight.
Without weighing the tongue weight that's the best way we can come up with to allow you to pick between the # RP66082 and the # RP66083. Ideally you would weight the tongue weight to be absolutely certain.
