Recommended Weight Distribution System for a 2008 Chevy Express and Toy Hauler
Question:
I just purchased a 2018 Coachmen Freedom Express 17 Blse Toy Hauler, 20 ft long, dry weight 2552, hitch weight 426. Wondering if you can help me purchase the proper weight distribution anti-sway hitch for this trailer. Towing it with it 2008 Chevy Express 2500.

I'd be happy to help you find the right weight distribution system for your new toy hauler. To get started, you'll need to know the tongue weight (TW) of your fully loaded Coachmen and the weight of any cargo you'll have sitting behind the rear axle of your 2008 Chevy Express. To find your TW, you can either use a scale, # e99044, or one of the methods outlined in the help article on determining tongue weight I've attached.
For example, if your trailer's TW is 550 lbs, and you have 150 lbs of cargo behind the axle of your Express, then you would want a weight distribution system rated for 700 lbs. A good fit for this would be the Reese SC Weight Distribution System # RP66083. This is rated for tongue weights between 400 lbs and 800 lbs, and has a gross towing weight of 8,000 lbs, which is more than enough for your needs.
You do not want a system rated too high though, as that will lead to a rigid ride. If it turns out there isn't going to be much weight behind the rear axle, for example, you may only need a system such as the Reese # RP66558. This is for tongue weights rated between 400 lbs and 600 lbs, and has a gross towing weight of 6,000 lbs.
I have added links to video reviews of systems for you, as well an article on weight distribution systems which you may find useful.
