Trailer Brakes Engage When Activating Turn Signals in Tow Vehicle

the trailer brakes engage with the turn signals. both the left and right. the display also shows a solid red screen

Expert Reply:
The trailer brakes engaging when activating the turn signals in your tow vehicle can be caused by a couple of things.
I first recommend checking both the vehicle side and trailer side connectors for any dirt or corrosion in and around the pins. Corrosion can cause the separate circuits to become bridged together, which would explain why one function in your vehicle is activating a different function on the trailer. Simply clean out any dirt and debris as needed.
Also check to make sure that the red wire from the Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195 is connected to the correct brake light switch in your vehicle. You will want to connect it to the wire at the brake light switch that carries power only when the brake pedal is pressed and not when anything else is activated. You can use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test the wires.
If you are unable to locate the cause, please let me know and I will be happy to look into this further.
