Does Reese Sway Control Kit Require a Shank

Im new to owning a camper and I need a sway control bar. I like this model but it says shank not included. What does that mean?

The Reese Friction Sway Control # 83660 is listed on our site in the same section as weight distribution systems. Some weight distribution systems include a shank (The part of the system that inserts into the trailer hitch receiver) and others do not.
The sway control bar you're looking at doesn't have, need, or use a shank. It's just a way to help navigate our site that is a little strange with this particular product.
