Flat Towing With a 1-1/4" Hitch Receiver
Question:
I plan on using this adapter to tow a 1800 lb car, flat on 4 wheels. There would be virtually no tongue weight. Would this work ? Tow vehicle is a 2017 Subaru Outback

I do have an option that will allow for you to use your 2017 Subaru Outback to flat tow a 1972 Volkswagen Beetle, however, none of the 1-1/4" to 2" hitch adapters are rated for towing applications. Instead, you will need to use a 2" hitch receiver like the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 75673 as this has a 2" receiver tube opening.
You may also need a high low adapter depending on your application. In order to determine this, you will need to measure from the ground to the center of the base plate kit installed on your towed vehicle in addition to the height from the ground to the top of your hitch receiver opening. The difference between the two will give you the correct amount of rise/drop you will need to consider when choosing a High-Low adapter. I have attached a list of all our adapters in addition to an installation video of my hitch receiver recommendation for you.
