Recommended 4 Bike Rack For 2017 Honda Pilot And 2011 Honda Odyssey
Question:
I have a 2017 Pilot and 2011 Odyssey and have recently put on the Curt hitch for the Pilot and have the Draw-tite hitch for the Odyssey on its way. Both 2inch hitches ordered from you via your great recommendations for the vehicle. I am now shopping for a bike hitch rack. I have typically done roof based rack on the Odyssey for our carbon race bikes but needs have shifted more as we now have 3 kids and we will need something to carry kids bikes as well as the recent fat bike 4.8inch tires I purchased. The tray style are nice but with the kids bike and fat bike tires im looking more at the hanging style. I keep coming back to the Hollywood HR400. We will have trips 300+ miles so the extra wheel tie-down feature is appealing. Any concerns re fit of the HR400 on these setups or other racks I should consider?

The first thing we will look at is clearance from center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the outermost bumper. The Curt # C13146 has a 5 inch clearance measurement on your Pilot. The measurement on your Odyssey with the # 75270 is 6-1/2 inches.
The Hollywood Racks Road Runner 4 Bike Carrier for 2" Hitches - Tilting # HR400 will work well to carry your 4 bikes including the new fat bike. The distance from center of hitch pin hole to back of upright bar is 10-1/2 inches so you will have adequate clearance with either vehicle. The anti-sway cradles as well as the anti-sway bar gives you that additional control that is unique to this bike carrier. I think this is the best carrier for your application.
The only other carrier that I'd throw in as a consideration is the Thule Hitching Post Pro - Folding Tilting 4 Bike Rack w Anti-Sway - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # TH934XTR. This is our best seller by far because people love it. The anti-sway cradles will also keep your bikes steady and you'll have the tilting function as well as more than adequate clearance for both vehicles. You will need to add a hitch lock like # THSTL2 and a cable lock like # e98891 to secure this rack.
For your kids bikes or any step through frames, I recommend the Hollywood Racks Bike Frame Adapter Bar for Women's and Alternative Frame Bikes # HRBA-PRO. This will create a top frame rail between the seat post and the handlebars. I've attached a video to assist.
