Can SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO SM99251 be Installed in Engine Compartment in 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Question:

I finally bit the bullet and bought the SMI Stay-in-play duo for my 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. I was surprised when viewing the video of the install in the jeep as the control unit was being installed under the drivers seat. In the video that had previously been posted 2014 or 2015 Jeep I believe, the control unit was installed in the engine compartment, passenger side near the firewall. Is there a reason the unit wasnt installed in the engine compartment like the previous years? Given that this is a jeep and sometimes the floor gets wet, Im concerned about installing the control unit under the drivers seat, but assume there is a reason you didnt install it in the engine compartment as with previous models. Appreciate any insight you have in this matter.

There isn't a specific place that the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 has to be installed on a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Under the seat is the easiest place to install it but if there is something in the way such as an under seat storage box then it can be installed elsewhere. If you wanted to install it in the engine compartment and there is space then you can certainly put it there.

Also the # RM-88400 relay is required to prevent the towed vehicle's brake signal from overriding the turn signal from the RV when applying the brakes during a turn which can be a problem when using a supplemental braking system. The relay prevents those issues. The RM-88400 relay is not required when using magnetic tow lights.
