Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

little confused by some of your info, i have a 1998 gr. cherokee v8 with a 44re transmission and a quadra trac transfer case that has a neutral positon. can I flat tow with it. thanks

Since your 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee has the Neutral position you can flat tow it.

To flat tow your Grand Cherokee you will need a Base Plate Kit, Tow Bar, Safety Cables, Tail Light Wiring Kit, a Supplemental Braking system, and you also might need a High-Low Adapter.

The base plate kit that I recommend is the Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit # 1411-2. The great thing about this kit is that is has removable arms which will give the front of your Jeep more of an OEM look when you are not flat towing.

One of the most popular tow bars that we have to offer is the Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar # RM-520. This tow bar will fit in a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver and has a towing weight capacity of 6,000 lbs. The RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables # RM-643 are a great option to use with this tow bar.

For tail light wiring I recommend the Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-154. If your application has separate wiring then you will need to use the wiring converter kit # 154-792-118158 to retain the use of separate turn and brake signals.

The SMI Air Force One Supplemental Braking System for Motor Homes with Air Brakes # SM99243 is another favorite because once it is installed you will hardly notice it is there. This system will apply the brakes on your Jeep proportionally to how you press the brakes in your RV.
