It sounds like the wires attached to the trailer connector are wired incorrectly.
You will want to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 and test the wires on your vehicle side connector first. Then use a 12V battery and test the wires on your camper. I am certain you will find the wires on one of the trailer connectors is incorrect. You will just need to change the wires at the back of the connector.
