Recommended Weight Distribution For 2018 Dutchman 2790hs
Question:
We just bought a 2018 Dutchman 2790bhs. We will pick it up in 2 weeks. Can you help me pick the correct setup for our truck and trailer? Since we have not picked this unit up, we do not know exactly what the weight will be. Trailer info,: Shipped weight: 6,497, Dry Weight Hitch 631lbs. Cargo Capacity 3,183 lbs. Due to this weight being dry, and without our stuff, I imagine it will be a couple thousand more pounds. Truck info: 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9l 24v Cummins Diesel. This truck has the camper package, added leaf springs, etc. Thank you in advance for your time researching this matter.

The best way to determine what system will work for you is to know what your total tongue weight is. The total tongue weight is the tongue weight of your fully-loaded-ready-to-tow trailer added to the weight of any cargo you place behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. You will then want to find a system where your total tongue weight falls near the middle of the tongue weight range for the system. Getting a system that is too small will be useless, but getting a system that is too big will result in a stiff, uncomfortable experience.
You may be interested in our tongue weight scale # e99044. This can be used to give you an accurate weight when you get your trailer and load your gear.
You may be able to estimate the total tongue weight but it really is better to get an accurate weight of the trailer when it is loaded and ready to tow. If your total tongue weight falls in between 600 and 1000 lbs I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37100ET. This system comes with sway control built in that stops sway before it begins. This is especially good for windy days or when passing big trailers on the highway.
If your total tongue weight falls between 800 and 1200 lbs I recommend part # EQ37120ET.
Because it is pretty tight when installing the hitch ball, a thin-walled socket like part # EQ70-00-4800 is recommended.
