Recommended 4 Bike Platform Style Bike Rack for a 2012 Toyota Sienna XLE
Question:
My 2012 Toyota Sienna XLE has the Curt C13105 hitch installed. I am looking for a platform carrier that can hold 4 bikes and when it is not in use it can be stored away in my garage without taking up too much space. Also it is important that I am able to open the rear door of the minivan with the bikes on the rack. Which 4 Bike platform style bike rack do you recommend ? Or should I be investing in a hanging carrier ?

Four mount platform bike racks are great options for families to transport 4 of their bikes but since your 2012 Toyota Sienna XLE sits so close to the ground and requires more clearance to open the rear hatch I'm afraid that you will not be able to completely open the rear hatch of your Sienna with a platform style carrier (see attached video of the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE # HR1400Z as an example).
If you still want this route, I recommend going with the Kuat NV 2.0 # BA22B-BA02B for your Sienna. It utilizes the tilting feature (which can be activated by foot) that you are looking for to allow some access to the rear cargo area of your Sienna while the bikes are still loaded. It is a wheel mount platform rack and also comes with bike and hitch locks to help deter theft if you need to run into the store with the bikes loaded. This can also be converted to a 2 bike rack if need be.
I have 2 different options for hanging style bike racks that we have confirmed will allow you to gain full access to the rear cargo area of your Sienna (see attached videos).
