Should 5.70-8 Trailer Tire Be Used in Place of 4.80-8
Question:
I am looking at a used load rite pwc trailer, and it has 5.7 -8 wheels. Ive seen the same trailer with 4.8 - 12 rims. My question is which is better for trailering? My thinking is that the larger the circumference of the wheel longer the axle should last. Second question. Do you know if I would be able to use either wheel size on the same axle?

Helpful Expert Reply:
Both of those tire sizes are designed to fit the same rim dimensions of 8 inch diameter and 3-3/4 inches wide. Going with a larger tire when clearance is available will typically give you a better ride. The larger circumference allows the bumps to be a bit smoother, the wheel doesn't end up spinning quite as fast, and the larger tires have higher capacities.
If the 5.80-8 that you have now is working well I'd stick with it. If you need a replacement tire you'd want the part # AM10012.
I also attached a help article that covers a lot of typical trailer tire questions as well.
