Why Can't Folding Trailer Tongue Hinge FHDPW230300 Be Used on Aluminum Trailers
Question:
What is the reason for the folding tongue not for aluminum trailers?

Expert Reply:
Aluminum, as a material for construction of a trailer, does offer some major advantages: it cannot rust and it is lightweight. Downsides of aluminum as a trailer material are reduced strength (as compared to steel) and sometimes electrical difficulties since it does not conduct as well as steel. Grounding lights on an aluminum trailer can sometimes cause challenges and may require a ground jumper wire to be run up to the main trailer ground.
For a weld-on hinged coupler like # FHDPW230300 which is made of steel the welding process itself is an issue since aluminum melts at a lower temperature than steel.
