Can A Spare Radial Tire Be Used On Trailer When Other Tires Are Bias-Ply

Question:

I need to buy a spare tire and wheel for my camper. It currently has 4 SuperTrac ST205/75D14 but I am considering the Karrier ST205/75R14. Will it be a problem for me to have one radial tire with a different rating than the other 3 bias ply tires?

Expert Reply:

If you have bias-ply tires on your camper I recommend continuing to use tires that match. The tires may have the same weight rating and ply but the speed rating may be a factor. For example, the speed rating for our Radial tire # TR20514 is 81 mph while a bias-ply tire with the same load rating and ply has a 65 mph speed rating. This could become a factor for tire wear. Plus radial tires run cooler which means they will last longer. Bias-ply tires have stiffer sidewalls where a radial tire flexes more than a bias-ply which means better ground contact, traction and stability.

I have attached a helpful article that addresses frequent questions about tires you can check out.

I have attached a link to the 14 inch tire/wheel combos we offer.
