Can B&W Biker Bar BWMC2302 Be Installed in Truck Bed

Question:

Can your Biker Bar be used in a pickup bed? Yeah I know it might be tough to do because of the difficulty of getting to things under the truck but what Im really concerned about is, THE thing I want to know is, is the floor of the pickup bed strong enough to take the torque load that would be placed on it or would it ultimately tear it up?

The corrugated sheet metal of a truck bed does not have the strength to allow safe installation of a motorcycle transport system like the Blue Ox Bike Bars setups # BWMC2302, # BWMC2301 and # BWMC2300.

In order to mount one of these carriers systems to a pickup's bed you would need to provide reinforcement to the bed. You could have a steel plate welded to the truck's frame, under the bed, to which the Biker Bar could then mount. This would likely require alternate hardware to reach down to this plate.

My contact at B&W did indicate that they have had customers successfully install the Biker Bar in their beds using only 3/4-inch plywood on top of the bed as a means to distribute the load and to reinforce the bed.

Between these two methods I would certainly recommend going with a welded steel plate over the plywood but that does remain an option which B&W considers adequate.
