Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2003 Suzuki Grand Vitara
Question:
Hi, I am needing to get a baseplate for a 2003 SUZUKI Grand Vitara. I found the BX3516. Can you confirm that is what I want if using with a BLUE OX BX7335 Adventa II tow bar?? Can you also provide info on the breakaway cables needed? I will be using a temp magnetic light setup and understand that additional braking systems are only required on toads of 3500+ lbs? Is that correct? Thanks

The laws concerning flat towing a vehicle behind an RV vary by State and Province and can change without notice so I recommend checking with the highway patrol in the areas where you intend to travel to find out what is legally required. We have two options in Blue Ox base plates for the 2003 Grand Vitara, part # BX3516 which has removable arms (recommended) and fixed-arm kit # BX3515.
In general, the items needed to flat tow a vehicle include a tow bar, a wiring/lighting kit, safety cables, a wiring extension for quick hookup, a high/low hitch adapter to keep the tow bar close to level when it is connected, and both base plates and a braking system for the towed car. Each of these items is covered in the linked article on the basics of flat towing. Additional item-specific articles are linked for you too.
You'll definitely want to check your owner's manual under the index heading 'recreational towing' to confirm what steps if any are required to prepare the vehicle for flat towing. Some cars cannot be flat towed and others may have this capability after certain specific preparation steps are completed.
