Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2015 Ford F-150 Behind a Moving Truck
Question:
Hi, I will be moving and want to flat tow my 2015 F150 Screw 4x4 behind my moving truck. What will I need to do this? Can I install part RM-501 on my truck? What other parts will I need?

There are 5 major components needed to flat tow a vehicle: base plates, tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking. For base plates I recommend # RM-524431-4 because they are compatible with more accessories than the other option.
The Stowmaster tow bar # RM-501 will fit the above mentioned base plates so no worries there. You may also need a high-low adapter to keep the tow bar level. I have included a link to a help article that explains how to measure to determine the size adapter needed, if any. For safety cables you can use # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground.
Since you are setting the truck up to flat tow it once when you move you don't have to spend a lot of money on the light kit. A magnetic kit such as # RM-2120 would work fine for this application.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the preferred systems for our installers and what I recommend is the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO proportional system, # SM99251. It will apply the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles. Now depending on how far you are going you might choose to not use a braking system just keep in mind that most states do require one.
Be sure to consult your vehicle owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.
