Recommendations to Remedy Slight Sway with Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System Installed

Question:

I traded up from a 2010 Toyota tundra to a 2015 ford f250. my camper is a 2008 Fleetwood prowler travel trailer dry weight around 7600 lbs. After readjusting my equalizer according to instructions provided I still get a slight sway. What type of adjustment should I make to eliminate the sway?

If you are still experiencing some sway when using your Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System such as the # EQ37100ET, there are a couple of things you can adjust on your setup to try and improve these conditions.

First, lingering sway issues can be an indication of there not being enough weight distribution with the hitch. To remedy this, you will follow the "under-adjustment" guidelines in the installation manual. You will need to add more weight distribution force to the hitch by adding spacer washers, or raising the L-brackets.

If this is the type of adjustment you have already performed, and you are still having some sway, the next thing I recommend checking is your trailer's tongue weight. The tongue weight should be around 10 to 15 percent of the trailer's total weight. A tongue weight that is too light will lead to sway when towing. You can reposition the load in your trailer as needed to add more weight to the front. If any are present, you may want to remove cargo carriers or bumper accessories from the rear of the trailer.

Other possible causes for trailer sway are improperly rated or under inflated tires and exceeding the tow capacity of your vehicle.
