How Many Bolts Per Side is Recommended When Installing a Sidewinder King Box

Question:

Hi I have a Jayco 2001 24 rks fifth wheel with a Leland 7920 hitch. I purchased a used nimble and quick sidewinder with the st400 pin box. My question the original bolt pattern is 3 bolts at the back of the hitch and 3 bolts at the front of the hitch for a total of 6 per side and 12 total. When I line up the nimble and quick st400 the holes will only allow me to line up 2 bolts at the back and 4 bolts on the front of the pin box. I am still using 6 bolts per side, is this pattern still okay to use?

When installing the Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pin, # ST400-5AS16K, the manufacturer recommends 4 total bolts on the front set and rear set of mounting holes or a minimum of 2 bolts on each side on the front and 2 on the back.

Since you are mounting the Sidewinder with 2 on each side of the front and 4 on each side of the rear mounting holes, you will be fine with this installation.

Just remember to torque all mounting bolts to the recommend torque spec listed in the instructions. There is a set of instructions linked toward the bottom of this page for you to reference. Also I recommend using the same hardware that is attaching your original pin box.
